Conversation at Bed

George: Can mommy still have a baby in her tummy even though she's not really a grownup?

Clay: What do you mean?

George: Well, Mommy's not really a grownup.

Clay: Actually, Mommy is a grownup.

George: (Becoming agitated) No she's not. Not really!

Clay: Okay. We'll talk about it in the morning.

School Dayz

George and Goldie had their first day of school today. (Goldie picked her outfit.) She cried when we left her and without guilt Clay, Milo and I walked to Faux Starbucks, aka: 15th Ave Coffee and Tea for some Kona pour-over coffee (Clay) and a tea latte (me). We also ordered a Beechers cheese plate and a salmon plate not knowing how large they both were. It literally looked as though F.S. (Faux Starbucks) was having a party and Clay and I pulled our chairs up to the buffet. We are pigs 'cause we cleaned both plates.

When we picked up George and Goldie a few hours later, Goldie was fast asleep and snoring in her teacher's arms. We transferred her to the stroller, trudged up the hill toward home with two strollers, multiple bags and a baby in my arms. After all that, Goldie dutifully woke up the second we walked in the front door.

Later that night, I made a chicken feast that tasted just like it was marinated in high-octane gasoline. Mmmmmm... gasoline. But that's a post for another night.

Sex in the City

Eight hours of my day. Lived by me, the mom.

Clay making challah.

Goldie playing in the fountain at University Village.

The kids want cupcakes...

The kids really want cupcakes.

The kids get cupcakes!

The Challah (in the background) served with coq au vin (minus bacon).

I used the title just to get you to read until the end.

It worked, didn't it?

I'm Not Protesting Whole Foods

I went into Whole Foods today to buy a bottle of wine. Something light, to go with salmon. The checker requested to see my I.D. and when I didn't have it with me, she wouldn't sell me the bottle. I was irritated, but at the same time I had never felt so alive (or so young). Thank you, Whole Foods checker lady. You made my year.

Oh, and by the way, this lady was behind me trying to buy Camels. She wouldn't sell to her without I.D. either.

"Tell them about me!" says George

"Okay." I say.

"I'm four years old. I love to make trap doors. It is my favorite thing to make.
I love to eat Popsicles and Honey Nut Cheerios. I like helmets too. I love Ash, he's a Pokemon master. And Pikacho. He lives with Ash. He saves the day."

Then Goldie chimes in:

"I'm two. I like noodles. I like to play with daddy. I like when mommy tickles my yeg (leg). I like Big Ruby and Darya. That's who I like. Two people. I like Nana. I like Fuel Coffee Shop. I like, um, Darya come there with me. And my Big Ruby and Eliza."

I let George take a few pictures for my blog. The following are his photos and commentary.

Milo, Milo I love your fingers, toes and nose and eyes. I love you.

Binkys, binkys in the refrigerator.

Here is Milo, he's the best Milo ever.

Yesterday

Here we have a surly Goldie who colored her face to match her dress.

And this shot brings us Captain Underpants who came in for a landing in the backyard.

Happy Birthday Julia Child!

To commemorate Julia Child's birthday, we saw Julie and Julia today.

I also cooked a birthday dinner and cake in Julia's honor. (I started to make Poulet Saute aux Herbs de Provence but stopped because the egg yolk sauce put me off. We settled for Ina Garten's lemon chicken with grilled veggies...) As you can tell from the empty plates, it was a hit.

Happy Birthday, Julia!

Ummmmmmm...

George and I are walking outside when suddenly the smell of manure is overwhelming.
George says, "Um, dog poop... I love that smell."

Photo Booth Boy

Tonight we took the kids to a Tom Douglas event called the Ice Cream Social.
There were six local artisan ice cream vendors and a photo booth.

George got into the booth by himself and gave his six most intimidating poses.
The results are below.

Moment of Silence

I'd just like to have a moment of silence for the over-the-top yummy salmon I made tonight.

Onion, basil from our garden, brown sugar, more brown sugar and some salt.

Tip your heads now and I'll post the recipe later.

Silence...

Lazy Sunday

George and Goldie are at Maria's 6th birthday party, which is a drop off party. Woo-hoo!

I'm in the kitchen making TWO Texas sheet cakes.

Clay is in the basement cooking up a 2-gallon batch of Sangria and every 10 minutes he shuffles upstairs and asks me to sample some wine, which may or may not be corked.
He's gonna be drunk in about five minutes and I'm gonna have a heart attack from all the butter I'm using.

Milo is snoozing away to the sounds of a busy, busy morning. We El You Vee LOVE drop off parties.

Ick!

This is Goldie at the Pacific Science Center holding a Brazilian Ka Ka-Roach.
She kept getting in line to hold it 'cause she liked it so well.
